On the 23rd of August, the much-anticipated series “The Four Directions Pavilion” debuted exclusively on iQIYI, courtesy of the creative minds at iQIYI’s Qi Jia Studio. Set against the backdrop of the “Four Directions Pavilion,” an extraordinary institution established by the Great Yong Dynasty for external affairs, this series presents a vivid and humorous depiction of ancient office life. Leading the cast are Tan Jianci and Zhou Yiran, with supporting roles filled by Du Chun, Kan Qingzi, Wei Zixin, and Zhang Shulun. The production team is headed by Wu Zheng, General Manager of iQIYI’s Qi Jia Studio, serving as executive producer, alongside Liu Wenyang as supervisor, Zhao Qichen as director, and Li Ye and Qiu Ting as screenwriters. Notably, the dynamic duo of Liu Wenyang and Zhao Qichen, known for their expertise in historical light comedies, have previously collaborated with iQIYI to produce two smash hits, “The Bride Was A Scholar” and “A Fine Day for Wedding,” both achieving content heat ratings of over ten thousand. They now continue their tradition of breezy humor and witty dialogue, showcasing the cultural exchange and prosperity of ancient times.
One of the standout features of “The Four Directions Pavilion” is its richly developed ensemble cast. Yuan Mo (played by Tan Jianci), the Pavilion's special consultant, is portrayed as a clever and smooth operator, providing a stark contrast to the straightforwardness of Wang Kunwu (Du Chun), a fellow Pavilion member. Their interactions generate abundant comedic moments while also highlighting the challenges and responsibilities they face together within the Pavilion. The spirited and quick-witted maid, A Shu (Zhou Yiran), and the valiant female constable, Wei Chi Hua (Kan Qingzi), infuse the plot with vitality and warmth, offering viewers a sense of comfort and joy. Under the leadership of Pavilion Master Yu Deshui (Wei Zixin), the quartet evolves from adversaries to close friends through a series of trials and tribulations. Additional characters, such as the foreign impostor princess, A Shilan (Chen Xiaoyun), and the prince from the northern desert, Duo Mi (Xu Haiqiao), add further dramatic tension to the narrative. Tonight, audiences can look forward to laughing along as the “Four Directions Pavilion” gathers exceptional talents from across the land, embodying the magnanimity and grandeur of the Great Yong Dynasty.
